Bertrand Chenier - Composer

Montreal composer Bertrand Chenier received his foundation in composition (instrumental and electroacoustic) at the University of Montreal. His signature style is characterized by the integration of electro-acoustic sounds with traditional instruments, lyrical and minimalist language, and references to archaic musical genres (namely ancient polyphony, world music and folkloric strains). A prominent figure in the contemporary dance scene for many years, he has composed for esteemed choreographers such as Jean-Pierre Perreault, Sylvain Émard, and Roger Sinha. Elles is his forth collaboration with Serge Bennathan, the first was Absences in 2006, the second Manga in 2007, the third was The Strange Adventure of Myself in 2009.

James Proudfoot - Lighting Designer

Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, James Proudfoot has been living in Vancouver since 1993. For twelve years he was the resident technical director at the Firehall Arts Centre. He is a much sought-after designer and has created lighting for many dance and theatre companies including Lola Dance, Co. Erasga, Wen Wei Dance, Joe Ink, EDAM, battery opera, Kinesis Dance, The Holy Body Tattoo, Anatomica, Tara Cheyenne Performance, Les Productions Figlio, Trial & Eros, Ballet BC as well as The Firehall Theatre Company.

Jay Gower Taylor – Set Designer

Jay Gower Taylor started out in theatre as a professional dancer where he enjoyed an international career spanning more than twenty years.  Parallel to his dance career, Jay developed his skills as a designer.  Some of his first opportunities designing for theatre were with Dancemakers, collaborating with Serge Bennathan on Absences, The Invisible Life of Joseph Finch, and the film Quand les grandmeres s’envolent for CBC’s Opening Night.  More recently, Jay designed Serge’s Conversatiosn and the play version of Finch, Crystal Pite’s Plot Point and Frontier for Nederlands Dans Theatre, Emergence for the National Ballet of Canada, Dark Matters and The Tempest Replica for Kidd Pivot, and Electric Company Theatre’s live-cinematic interpretation of Jean-Paul Sartre’s NO EXIT.

Linda Chow – Costume Designer

Linda Chow last collaborated with Serge Bennathan on Les chercheurs de dieu for Ballet BC. Also for Ballet BC, she worked with Aszure Barton, Simone Orlando, Gioconda Barbuto, Shawn Hounsell, Medhi Walerski and Jose Navas. She has also worked with Crystal Pite on Kidd Pivot projects and Emergence for the National Ballet of Canada.
